Rich countries are being hypocritical in criticizing China's greenhouse gas emissions while using the country's cheap labor in industries that pollute, Asian business and government leaders have said.
China has come under increasing pressure from the United States in particular to take more forceful measures to curb carbon dioxide emissions.
Asian leaders also criticized the U.S. and Australia for not signing the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which caps the amount of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases that can be emitted in industrialised countries.

Caribbean coral species are dying off, indicating dramatic shifts in the ecological balance under the sea, a new scientific study of Caribbean marine life shows.
The study found that 10 percent of the Caribbean's 62 reef-building corals were under threat, including staghorn and elkhorn corals. These used to be the most prominent species but are now candidates to be listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Greenpeace are launching a 7 Step Climate Campaign, starting with what they consider the most outrageously wasteful of electrical household items: the incandescent light bulb. They say that a simple switch to energy saving bulbs in the European Union alone would save 20 million tonnes of CO2, equal to shutting down 25 medium-size dirty power plants; and this is before considering the efficiency of other household products, or even cars.

Trade in red and pink corals prized as jewellery for 5,000 years will be restricted to try to help the species recover after drastic over-exploitation, a U.N. wildlife conference has agreed Wednesday.
Countries at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) voted 62 to 28 to start regulating export of corals, now harvested mainly in the Mediterranean and Western Pacific in a business worth millions of dollars.
